Craig is a winemaker with a very rare set of qualities that makes him one of only handful of Barossa winemakers able to realise the true potential of the Barossa’s best vineyards. Prior to starting the Tarrawatta project and establishing his family winery ‘Izway Wines’ Craig was the chief winemaker at Torbreck Vintners (2002 to 2017). It was during this time that he first met Nick Radford, buying grapes from his family vineyard and as neighbours in Seppeltsfield (western Barossa Valley). Craig has been working with our Ambervale vineyard since 2008, negotiating its purchase for the Pan family when the opportunity arose in 2017. Craig and Nick now work closely and dedicatedly to produce the best wines possible from our Tarrawatta vineyards.
Nick is the 6th generation of a family of Barossa viticulturalists and vineyard owners. He studied Agricultural science at Roseworthy Agricultural College which is well known for producing many of our best viticulturalists and winemakers. After graduating from Roseworthy Nick traveled for many years working in wine sales and marketing with wineries such as Penfolds, Hardy’s and just prior to joining the Tarrawatta project Rockford Wines as Sales and Marketing Manager. While living abroad, gaining valuable experience in the global wine trade he dreamed of returning home to own his own Barossa vineyard. In 2010 the dream was realised and a benefit unknown at the time was that his closest neighbour Craig Isbel would become a great mate, a buyer of grapes while winemaking at Torbreck and a future partner in developing Tarrawatta Wines.
